Ice makers at The Good Guys
The Good Guys is the largest single retailer block in this dataset, 22 listings across 7 brands, and it is also the least like the others. Only 2 of those are benchtop ice makers. The remaining 20 are refrigerators with an ice maker built in, running from $1,499 to $4,999. If you searched for an ice maker and landed in an appliance shop, that is the split you have walked into.

The bench range
Two machines, both Heller, $269 and $369. That is a narrow range next to the big-box retailers, and the reason is positioning rather than stock: an appliance chain sells the fridge, not the countertop gadget.
| Machine | Model | Price | kg / 24h | Ice | Watts | Tank |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Heller Electronic Ice Maker Silver | HIM10S | $269 | 10 | bullet | 150 | 1.7L |
| Heller 12kg Nugget Ice Maker Silver | HIMN12S | $369 | 12 | nugget | 150 | 1.7L |
The nugget one is the interesting one, with a caveat. The Heller HIMN12S is badged as a nugget machine and its close product photograph does show small opaque irregular pellets being scooped, which is not what a bullet machine produces. That photograph is why it is recorded as nugget here. Against it: the chassis, the wattage, the tank and the basket are the same as the bullet machine listed beside it, and the stated four to five minute cycle is a batch behaviour rather than the continuous auger production a real nugget machine runs. We have kept it in the verified column on the photographic evidence and we are telling you the reservation instead of burying it.
It is not the cheapest verified nugget machine in Australia either. Kenmore Crunchy Chewable Nugget Ice Maker, 18kg/24hr, Front-Load Portable Ice Machine at Amazon AU for $281.07, and Kenmore Nugget Ice Maker Front Load 18kg at JB Hi-Fi for $299.99 both come in under it, and the full comparison is on the nugget page.
The same model, cheaper somewhere else
HIM10S is $269 here and $249.99 at House. That is a difference of $19.01 on an identical model code. Worth saying out loud: we earn nothing from either shop, so there is no version of this page where pointing you at one of them pays better than the other.
One wrinkle. The two retailers publish different dimensions for the same model code, and the larger set is almost certainly the packed carton rather than the machine. Where two listings for one model disagree, the smaller dimension set is the one to plan your bench space around.
The fridges, which is most of the range
20 of the 22 listings are refrigerators with a built-in ice maker. This is the crossover that makes an appliance retailer different from a discount department store, and it is a completely different purchase: $1,499 to $4,999 against $269 to $369 for the bench machines above.
One question decides it, and it is not the price. Does the ice maker need a mains water line? 15 of these 20 do. 5 run from an internal refillable tank. A plumbed fridge needs a cold water point within reach of where the fridge stands, and several of these pages state that the connection has to be made by a licensed plumber, which is a cost that does not appear anywhere on the ticket.
The non-plumbed models run $1,499 to $2,999 and the plumbed ones $1,899 to $4,999, so there is no clean price penalty either way. Choose on your kitchen, not on the number. The longer version of this decision, including the model codes that quietly flip between plumbed and tank-fill within one brand's range, is on the fridges with ice makers page.
Nobody publishes how much ice a fridge makes. Across all 20 of these, zero state an output in kilograms per 24 hours, 1 state a tank volume and 1 state a bin capacity. A bench machine sells on its output figure and a fridge sells on its doors, so the number simply is not there to be quoted. If you need to know how much ice you will get, a bench machine is the only thing on the market that tells you.
Is The Good Guys where you should buy
We earn nothing from The Good Guys. There is no affiliate program and no arrangement of any kind, so this page has nothing to gain from sending you there or from sending you away. What follows is just what the prices say.
- For a fridge with an ice maker, yes. 20 models across 6 brands is the deepest built-in range we found at any retailer, the plumbing status is stated on 20 of 20 listings, and this is a category where being able to see the appliance and talk to someone about installation is worth something.
- For a nugget machine, only if you want that specific Heller. It is a reasonable buy and the photographic evidence supports the claim, but it sits in the middle of the verified nugget field on price, and the machine with the clearest evidence behind it is at a different retailer entirely.
- For a cheap bullet machine, no. $269 is a lot for 10kg a day of hollow cylinders when the same class of machine sells for well under a hundred dollars elsewhere, and the identical Heller model code is cheaper at another retailer we also earn nothing from. Start with the full comparison instead.
For the other end of the same street, Harvey Norman carries a deeper bench range including the clearest verified nugget machine in this dataset, and the house-brand page covers who actually makes the Heller units on this page.
Common questions
Does The Good Guys sell nugget ice makers?
One, the Heller HIMN12S at $369. Its close product photograph shows small opaque irregular pellets rather than the clear hollow cylinders a bullet machine makes, which is why it is recorded as nugget here. The reservation, which we would rather publish than hide: its chassis, its 150W draw, its 1.7 litre tank and its 600g basket are the same as Heller's own bullet machine sitting beside it, and the stated four to five minute cycle is bullet machine behaviour rather than the continuous production an auger gives you. It is the 3 cheapest of the 5 machines in this dataset whose nugget claim we could support.
Which Good Guys fridge makes ice without plumbing?
5 of the 20 fridges we sourced there run the ice maker from an internal refillable tank rather than a mains water line, and they start at $1,499. The other 15 need a fixed cold water connection, and several of those pages state that the installation has to be done by a licensed plumber. The trap to watch for is the model whose water dispenser is non-plumbed while its ice maker is not, which is a genuine split feature on at least one Samsung in this range and is marketed on some listings simply as non-plumbed.
Is The Good Guys cheaper than other retailers on the same ice maker?
Not on the one model we could compare directly. The Heller HIM10S sells for $269 at The Good Guys and $249.99 for the identical model code at House, a difference of $19.01. The two retailers publish different dimensions for the same model, which is a packaging figure on one side rather than a different machine. On fridges The Good Guys and its sibling chain price close to each other, so the comparison worth making there is between models, not between shops.
How much ice does a fridge ice maker actually make?
None of the 20 fridges here publishes a figure. Not one states a kilograms per 24 hours output, 1 state a tank volume, and 1 state an ice bin capacity. That is a real finding rather than a gap in our sourcing: a benchtop machine sells on its output number and a fridge does not, so the specification simply is not published anywhere on these listings. If output matters to you, a bench machine is the only thing on the market that will tell you what it does.
